    STEM

    What is STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

    In the UK, women and many BME groups are under represented in STEM industries. As a nation we need to encourage more girls and under-represented groups to have an enthusiasm and interest in the STEM subjects so they continue to study them to higher levels. There is evidence to suggests that the benefits of this will be wide-ranging, including benefits to society, industry, the economy and our international competitiveness.

    We are delighted that as part of our challenge-seeking curriculum, we are taking part in a STEM partnership programme.  This programme is an incredible opportunity, which seeks to inspire young children into STEM careers. This year the focus is on motivating girls into STEM-related careers.

    We have already started STEM clubs for KS1 and KS2, which have proved popular and oversubscribed and our houses are named after scientists.  We want to continue to drive this agenda forward this year and harness our children’s enthusiasm and talents for these subjects.

    Thanks to the Friends of Harris Primary East Dulwich (FoHPED), our practical room has been turned into a STEM room with exciting science resources to support the children’s curiosity and their thirst for working scientifically.

    Do you work in a STEM field?  Or have a passion for STEM? We are looking to develop parent STEM ambassadors who will support us in planning STEM events and come into school to share their experiences of working in this area.

     

    Robotics Club

    We are super excited to start Robotics club from the spring term to enrich children’s knowledge and skills on coding.
